BUSINESS MOTIVATION

In general, motivation is one of the greatest influential and driving forces both in the workplace and in your personal life.
Motivation can mean the difference between remarkable success and failure.

The two sources of motivation... primary parts of motivation are external or extrinsic sources. Further motivating factors come from internal forces; these are mainly derived from your thoughts, patterns and combined experiences.
Considering people are all unique it is evident to see that we are not all motivated by the same things.

For example what motivates Bill will not necessarily motivate Nancy. Each of us individually will be the only ones who will be able to determine what works for ourselves.

Taking time to look at what internal and external factors are your motivators as a business owner. Looking carefully at what you can do to improve and refine your motivation in order to make yourself more productive and more satisfied.

1. Necessity of... INSPIRATION

If you are not interested in your business it is inevitable that your business motivation level may never soar high enough to persevere….
  • Inspiration is critical to getting and staying motivated. If your motivation level is never high enough you won't be able to maintain interest for very long.
  • Now on the other hand, if you are eager and excited about the line of work you are involved in, you will have more perseverance, energy and passion to accomplish your goals.
  • Seriously have a sincere look at your inspiration level. Ask yourself… are excited about your work or is it just merely a responsibility?
It may surprise you at the number of people who would choose a business solely because it looks good on paper, but in reality they have zero interest in the type of business.

This not only a waste of time but equally a shame...,because these individuals can expect to grow tired and dispassionate about what they are doing very quickly...
it will be inevitable….
These people run the strong risk of having NO Inspiration or Passion to sustain them during the hard times that they will encounter as a small business owner.

How can you expect to regain your focus your energy on your small business if you don’t really enjoy your line of work…?
You are far further ahead if you select a small business to better match your interests and needs.

Here's another thought....making a complete change entirely...., Although this may be considered rather radical advice...,  inspiration is that important…

2. Goals: SETTING GOALS

Yet another vitally important step for any business and or business owner; short and long-term goal setting.
  • By not setting goals, you will find yourself adrift with nothing to strive for and with out a charted path to follow.
  • It would be virtually impossible to maintain your business motivation if you were unsure about the direction of your company!
  • So, remember it is very important to take the time to put your goals in writing.
  •  I know, a business plan can sound intimidating, but rest assured it is really nothing more than writing down your goals, your strategies, creating a realization and a look at your budget.
  • Writing your own business plan and updating it at least once a year will be very inspiring and rewarding for you as time progresses.
  • Include little-goals...these are goals that can be accomplished within a matter of hours...days or weeks. Also include the more unwavering inspiring-goals that may take years to complete. Revisit this plan periodically or as needed throughout the year.
Can a business plan really help motivate you…you ask?

Yes! Most definitely
….not only will it help inspire you... your well written goals will provide you with a greater connection to your business....you'll feel more professional gain vision and clarity.

Feeling more confident and understanding your plan…visualizing the path the “know how” of “when and how” to apply each step of your plan, freeing you from reinventing your business goals on a daily bases, thus allowing you to stay focused on building your business.

3. Power in NETWORKING
The power of networking is yet another key factor in getting and staying motivated... network with other small business owners.
Have you ever heard the saying…One person can NOT move huge mountains; but, when a number of people work together mountains are suddenly merely small hills …
  •  It is a fact that, one of the largest challenges an entrepreneur face  is …. isolation and the effects of working alone.
  • Finding mutual support is empowering and motivating. Locate other like-minded entrepreneurs by connecting with others either in your community or online. Not to worry, even though your businesses are not interrelated, you will more often than not,  a find common ground and interesting and exciting ways of which you can work together.
  • Numerous successful entrepreneurs have shared that in finding the right networking group they were able to discover a pivotal point in the growth of their small business.
  • The power that the support of working together found within a networking group can aid its members and help stir up more qualified sales leads…solve problems sooner and more efficiently.  Gain and share knowledge with ideas, your expertise and experience from others in the group….this benefit alone is an invaluable feature of networking groups.
  • Another often overlooked concept is the sharing of costs; consider sharing bulk costs with joint marketing projects.
  • Your own personal team of business owners will help pick yourself up you when the burden feels too much. Having a networking team to rely on, you can accomplish more in less time and not to mention the probability of more fun through the process and you will without doubt feel less alone.

4. Incentive REWARD YOURSELF

It is no secret small business owners constantly have to work hard, a big mistake is made when it’s “All-work, No-play”. Anyone’s motivation will soon begin to plummet if you don’t get any time away from the stress and demands of running the business.
  • In order to last for the long haul, plan regular rewards for yourself; be realistic, it doesn’t have to be some exotic get away, however at some point you will have likely earned it. Reward, your self can be simple…possibly a meal out with a close friend, a trip to the day spa….a nice enjoyable afternoon shopping.
  •  Budget and time permitting, possibly a few days out of town….it’s simple…the idea is to shut your self down from work…or make it a real vacation …even if you choose not to leave town. No checking email, voice mail or the fax machine.
  • Just get away from it all…., re-charge yourself. The down time will regenerate and improve your attitude and perspective. This may sound clichéd, but you’ll come back feeling a whole new sense of business motivation.

5. Health...EXERCISE

While some are already in tune with the powerful connection between the mind and the body. Others are not, as this powerful connection is not always so apparent.

  • However it is very important for every small business owner to equally take care of them selves as it is to care for the health of their business.
  • Take breaks and exercise. Each and everyday…for you to truly have motivation and mental clarity, your body needs to be healthy.
  • No need running off and joining a gym, no need to plan large segments of time through out the day or spend money hiring a personal trainer,(however that may be nice…I’ve always wanted a personal trainer of my own) just keep it simple, start by taking brisk walks for 30 minutes either before, after or during work.
  • Once you have successfully incorporated a walk each day, next try doubling the time or possibly incorporate an additional walk each day.
  • Mix it up, make it fun…you will find what works for you….but it is very important to get started. A great inspirational resource “Body for Life”
  • And once you’ve the walking as part of your life, start adding some basic light weights. There are many starter tapes available online or buy DVD or tape at a local department store. And or go online to find to find helpful information and instructions on how to properly and effectively use weights and avoid injury.
  • Having the weights in a handy and convenient location is also a good idea….possibly near or under your desk….get your and circulation going by using them for a few minutes at a time through out the day.
  • Another suggestion may be to buy a timer, this way you can start timing your mini workouts…start with 3-5 minutes workouts, gradually add a minute or two until you are up around 10-15 minutes per day.

6.Get ORGANIZED
Organization is vital to motivation and feeling good about your work, nothing is more nerve racking when you are unable to locate important papers or less professional when you are constantly late on returning messages.
  • This will only result in faltering business and your motivation will ultimately suffer.
  • For some they just find it impossible to get organized. If for some off chance you are one of them, I suggest you bring someone in…possibly a friend in business, another member of the family, or professional that may help you get the clutter out and mess cleared up.
  • Feng Shui your space…you’ll be shocked at how important the organization step truly is….but by all means do not stop with that…really do yourself a favor and get organized and create business systems that will aid you in streamlining your business operations.
This may take some time and be challenging to start and stay on track to maintain these systems, but I can assure you that having organizational systems in place and sticking with it will be rewarding and free you with more time to think about and work on more important things.

7. External Motivation:
 MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS-AUTHORS

I’m sure you... like all of us small business owners feel like we are constantly having motivational ideas, motivation tapes, DVDs, books, seminars and you name it…
thrown at us from all directions….
  • If you’re asking why there are so many various motivational products, authors and speakers? Well…it’s because people are buying these materials. And if these materials are used effectively, they are effective and so as a result they sell!
  • Nevertheless, there are countless motivational gurus, this making it difficult to distinguish through the confusion in finding the right motivational professional that makes sense for you.
  • You need to find someone that triggers your motivational buttons, gets you fired up and feeling "enthusiastic" about working and improving your business.
  • Talk to others in your networking group other members may be able to recommend someone or something they have found successful for them.
  • Become alert to the motivational industry, looking at how it may apply to you and how it could help you become enthused and constructive about your business. Perform some basic research looking for authors and or speakers that may interest you.
  • Look for inexpensive ways to obtain the materials before you invest in motivational materials. Inquire at your local library, share costs with a fellow networking friend, second hand bookstores or search for and buy used materials online.
  • You’ll probably want to sample a variety of different viewpoints before you make a huge investment…Because you will have the question…will these materials really work for me? And the answer is…Yes…however once again…only if you make the commitment and apply the effort.
As in exercise, in order to gain and see results… you have to work the muscles…and this example your mind is the muscle.
Seriously and honestly use the motivational ideas over a period of time…and you will and begin to see results.

It’s all up to you…to apply your newly acquired information and  knowledge…apply it to all aspects of your life…transform your life…and your business.
Remember motivation is the force that moves us ahead both in our daily and business lives.
Take the right steps; right out the get go….
take the time…examine your motivating factors…use these keys to improve your focus…restore your enthusiasm.
